Examples of NC SPEED Collaborations

ACOG Guide for Smoking Cessation during Pregnancy

We collaborated with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists to update their “Smoking Cessation during Pregnancy: A Clinicians’ Guide to Helping Pregnant Women Quit Smoking” to reflect the US Public Health Service 2008 Clinical Practice Guideline “Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence.”  This Continuing Medical Education program presents the 5 A’s approach to tobacco cessation counseling and provides practical office system changes to increase implementation of the 5 A's. We also collaborated with You Quit Two Quit to provide North Carolina specific resources.

Colorectal Cancer Screening Toolkit

NC SPEED has a long-standing partnership with the North Carolina Community Health Center Association and the Tri-county Community Health Center in Harnett County. We are working with a team of their clinicians to revise a toolkit to increase rates of colorectal cancer screening in community health centers (CHC).  Revisions to the kit will consider how CHCs deliver care to their specific patient populations, most of whom are uninsured and many of whom are migrant workers and Spanish-speakers.
